Thanks for taking the time to visit our site. Y'all are welcome to stop by anytime to view our little patch of red dirt Heaven on the Stagger’n D Ranch located in Coke County, just Northeast of Robert Lee, Texas.

Dean Herefords is a small family owned cow calf operation that strives to produce quality registered Herefords for both the purebred Hereford breeder and the commercial cattleman. We are dedicated to the integrity of the Hereford breed, practice responsible land stewardship, and are committed to leaving this rock with our boots on!

We squeeze everything we can out of our place and our herd.  All without jeopardizing herd health, native forage, and our sanity.  My philosophy is pretty simple, and one that I've carried over from 26 years active duty in the United States Marine Corps.  KISS, Keep It Simple Stupid.  We expect everyone  and everything to pull its weight on what the good Lord provides us on the range.  Primarily for management purposes we use 20% range cubes once or twice a week to keep track of the herd.  Depending on native forage, the weather, and our small winter wheat fields, we'll put out round bales of hay when needed.

Our two herd bulls produce easy birthing calves.  So if one of our cows or heifers can’t “get er done” without minimal help, they’re off to the packer.  We don’t pawn them off on the next guy.

Young bulls that don’t pass the confirmation test, or have attitude problems get cut or banded and are off to the feedlot.  To date we’ve held on to all of our quality Heifers while expanding our little herd, but those that didn’t look and act right ended up on someone’s plate.  And more often than not, that cow that produced more than one low producing calf or is found open is culled from the operation.
